INTOB workflow based on ZFET
In the study "Leveraging Zebrafish Embryo Phenotypic Observations to Advance Data-Driven Analyses in Toxicology", conducted by UFZ scientists and others, the Integrated Effect Database for Toxicological Observations (INTOB) played a key role in standardising and managing experimental data.
The workflow involving INTOB can be summarised as follows:

Data Entry
Researchers conducted over 600 zebrafish embryo toxicity tests, collecting extensive phenotypic observations and associated metadata. This information was systematically entered into the INTOB system via its web-based user interface, ensuring consistent data capture and adherence to standardized terminology.

Data Storage
Once entered, all experimental data and metadata were securely stored in INTOB's centralized database. This centralized approach maintained data integrity and facilitated controlled access, aligning with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles.

Data Retrieval and Analysis
Centralized storage allowed researchers to efficiently search, retrieve and analyze the compiled data. INTOB's infrastructure supported comprehensive data analyses, enabling the identification of patterns, assessment of control variability, and exploration of chemical modes of action based on morphological fingerprints.

INTOB facilitated data sharing among researchers by providing standardized data formats and controlled vocabularies. This standardization enhanced data interoperability, allowing for cross-study comparisons and meta-analyses, thereby advancing data-driven chemical risk assessments.
